Westbrook Christian kept within striking distance against Ohatchee for much of the game on Tuesday (Dec. 9), but the Lady Warriors faded down the stretch in a 44-35 Class 3A, Area 11 loss in Rainbow City.

“We’ve got a lot of new girls this season, so we’re a work in progress,” said Westbrook head coach Antron Brookins. “But we’re getting there, slowly but surely.”

Following a 12-0 run by the Lady Indians out of the gate, Westbrook outscored the visitors 16 to 6 in the second quarter to take a 19-18 lead at halftime. Abby Lockridge notched eight of her team-high 11 points during that stretch.

But Ohatchee began the second half with a 9-0 run and the Lady Warriors never led again. Lockridge’s three-point basket with 50 seconds left in the third period drew the hosts within 34-27.

Mary Grace Mayfield’s basket with just under three minutes remaining trimmed the deficit to 39-35 but that turned out to be Westbrook’s final score of the night. Morgan Lee scored the final five Indian points to put the game away.

Mayfield finished with seven points, followed by Ella Lawley and Hannah Grace Riggan with six each.

Joria Steger paced Ohatchee with 15 points.
