A number of area athletes qualified for the AHSAA state track & field meets this week in Gulf Shores (Class 4A, 5A, 6A and 7A) and Cullman (Class 1A, 2A and 3A). The top five sectional meet qualifiers made the state meet, with several sixth-place finishers being possible wild cards.
Hokes Bluff’s Tylynn Register won four events at the Class 4A Section 3 meet at Beauregard. Register took first place in the 100-meter hurdles (16.12), the 300-meter hurdles (47.89), the long jump (16-04.00) and the triple jump (35-05.00). The Lady Eagles finished in fourth place.
Westbrook Christian’s Mary Reid Goodwin won three events at the Class 2A Section 3 meet at Beauregard. Goodwin placed first in the 800-meter run (2:44.38), the 1600-meter run (5:57.64) and the 3200-meter run (14:03.16). The Lady Warriors took fourth place overall.
Southside’s Hunter Nails and Westbrook’s Mitchell Cook each won two events. At the Class 6A Section 4 meet at Fort Payne, Nails captured the 800-meter run (2:03.32) and the 1600-meter run (4:32.74). Nails also was a member of the Panthers’ first-place 4×800-meter relay team (8:32.37) along with Austin McClellan, Seth Tunstall and Taylor Nails. Cook took first in the 800-meter run (2:10.73) and the 1600-meter run (5:00.46). The Panthers finished in third place, while the Warriors took sixth.
Also winning first place in individual events were Gaston’s Amayiah Hill in the 2A Section 3 shot put (32-07.50); Hokes Bluff’s Kendall Johnson in the 4A Section 3 shot put (32-05.25); Southside’s Macie Williams in the 6A Section 4 shot put (34-01.00); and Southside’s Nick Shirley in the 6A Section 4 javelin (178-04).
Two other local schools won first place in relay events – the Glencoe girls team of Anna Beth Giles, Ashley Morgan, Anna Grace Goodwin and Abby Vice in the 3A Section 3 4×400 (4:37.69) and the Etowah boys 5A Section 4 4×100 team of Tyrell Boley, Emaje Graves, Deundrea Williams and Malik Wilson (43.30). The Lady Yellow Jackets took fifth place overall, while the Blue Devils came in sixth.
In 4A Section 3 boys ambulatory events, Hokes Bluff’s Logan Langley took first
place in the 100-meter dash (15.28), shot put (31-07.50), discus (80-03) and javelin (121-03).
Sardis High’s Emma Schaffer finished runner-up in two events in 4A Section 3 girls – the long jump (15-11.75) and the javelin (105-05). The Lady Lions finished seventh overall.

(94-02); Glencoe’s Anna Beth Giles in the 3A Section 3 girls 400-meter dash (1:04.62); Glencoe’s Abby Vice in the 3A Section 3 girls 800-meter run (2:37.64); Hokes Bluff’s Emily Gilliland in the 4A Section 3 girls high Jump, (4-08.00); Sardis’ Luke Nelson in the 4A Section 3 boys javelin (161-11); Hokes Bluff’s Kendall Johnson in the 4A Section 3 girls discus (89-08.50); Etowah’s Trevon Caldwell in the 5A Section 4 boys triple jump (42-11.00); Etowah’s Malik Wilson in the 5A Section 4 boys high jump (6-02.00); Gadsden City’s Damon Thompson in the 7A Section 4 boys shot put (47-06.50); the Southside boys 4×400-meter relay team of Austin McClellan, Jarrod Death, Tyler Cline and Hunter Nails (3:29.60); and the Westbrook boys 4×800-meter relay team of Mitchell Cook, Jordan Cowart, Stuart Douglass and Jackson Martin (10:04.98).

boys high jump (6-00.00); Etowah’s Deundrea Williams in the 5A Section 4 boys 100-meter dash (11.78); Etowah’s Tyrell Boley in the 5A Section 4 boys 200-meter dash (23.15); the Glencoe girls 4×800-meter relay team of Erin Ramsey, Ashley Morgan, Anna Grace Goodwin and Anna Beth Giles (11:48.43); and the Hokes Bluff boys 4×100-meter relay team of Zach Allen, Andrew Colley, Cam Dowdy and Darrian Meads (11.76).
