Four area football players were recognized in the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Prep Spotlight for the Week of Oct 6.
Southside senior Mason Teague rushed for 171 yards on 25 carries in the Panthers’ 23-13 win over No. 6 Leeds. Teague’s 53-yard touchdown run out of the Wildcat formation late in the fourth quarter secured the win.
Sardis senior Blaze Gerhart rushed 24 times for 202 yards and two touchdowns in the Lions’ 35-21 win over region rival Douglas.
Gadsden City sophomore Chris Butler finished with 10 tackles, including three for a loss, and three sacks in the Titans’ 69-0 victory over Hazel Green.
Sardis sophomore Levi Martin had two interceptions in the Lions’ 35-21 win over region rival Douglas. Martin’s second pick came with 35 seconds left to play in regulation and Sardis protecting a seven-point lead. He returned it 45 yards for a touchdown to secure the victory.
