Local players recognized by AHSAA

Several area players were nominated for the Alabama School Athletic Association’s Prep Football Spotlight for Week 5 of the 2024 season.

Coosa Christian senior linebacker Clete O’Bryant had 16 tackles, including six for a loss, in the Conquerors’ 29-2 victory over Fyffe. Teammate Cade Mickler had eight tackles and two sacks, while Radley Mays had seven tackles and recovered two fumbles.

Gadsden City junior quarterback Kai Franklin (pictured above at left) finished with 257 total yards and three touchdowns in the Titan’s 40-27 win over Bob Jones. He was 14 for 24 in passing for 159 yards and two TDs and carried four times for 98 yards and a touchdown. Teammate T.J. Worthy rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries, while Kerrell Yow had six catches for 90 yards and a score.

Hokes Bluff junior quarterback Bryce Whitaker rushed for 231 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries in the Eagles’ 35-0 victory over Glencoe. Connor Ford led the way defensively with 11 tackles.

Southside senior running back Koal Garrett rushed 21 times for 157 yards and three touchdowns in the Panthers’ 41-34 double overtime victory over Etowah. Teammate Jevontae Strong gained 120 yards and a touchdown on six carries.

Westbrook Christian sophomore quarterback Brody Blevins finished with 330 total yards and five touchdowns in the Warriors’ 52-21 victory over Munford. He rushed for 173 yards and four TDs on 22 carries and was 7 for 9 in passing for 160 yards and one score. He also ran for a two-point conversion.

West End junior linebacker Fysher Patterson had 16 tackles in the Patriots’ 36-6 loss to Vinemont.
