Local volleyball roundup: Glencoe makes to semifinals of Yellow Jacket Invitational

Glencoe went 4-2 at the Yellow Jacket Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Glencoe. Ohatchee and St. Clair County won the Gold Bracket Silver Brackets, respectively.
In pool play, Glencoe (33-17) lost to Pleasant Valley, 25-27, 19-25 and beat Coosa Christian, 25-8, 25-9, Cedar Bluff 25-23, 25-17 and beat Anniston 25-8, 25-3. In bracket play, beat Lincoln, 25-22, 25-19 and lost to Pleasant Valley, 8-25, 14-25 in the Gold Bracket semifinals.
For the tournament for the Lady Yellow Jackets, Alli Jo Amos had 23 kills, 13 digs and three blocks; Avery Barkley had 49 assists, nine digs and three kills; Kinlee Montgomery had 55 assists, 13 digs, 11 aces and six kills; Evelyn Nowak had 42 kills, nine digs and two blocks; Kaelyn Hollis (No. 12 pictured above) had 47 digs, 14 aces and four assists; Mia Talbot (No. 6 pictured above) had 25 kills and 12 digs; Payton Gray had 22 digs, three assists, two kills and two aces; Ashlyn Stone had 13 digs and 10 kills; Gracyn Bunt had 12 digs, 10 aces and four assists; Millie Chambless had 11 kills, eight digs and two blocks; Sadie Waldrop had 13 digs and six kills; Kaedy Smith had four kills and Riley Helms had three digs.
Glencoe hosts the Class 3A Area 12 Tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 16. Glencoe plays Piedmont at 4 p.m., followed by Westbrook Christian against Ohatchee at 5:30 p.m.

Westbrook Christian closed out the regular season with a quad match on Saturday, Oct. 12 in Rainbow City. The Lady Warriors (39-5) defeated Boaz, 25-20, 25-19 and Jacksonville, 25-21, 25-16 and lost to Cherokee County, 12-25, 21-25. For the day for Westbrook, Raylee Neal had 47 assists, 20 digs, eight kills and three aces; Marley Cox had 24 kills and 14 digs; Kylee Wyatt had 23 digs and three aces; Sara Windle had 21 digs and five assists; Ellison Stewart had 15 kills and 10 digs; Addi Hammontree had nine kills, three aces, three digs and two blocks; Elyse Neal had nine digs; Landri Lipscomb had four kills and three aces; Caroline Taylor had three kills and Reid Elam had three digs.

Westbrook swept a tri-match on Thursday, Oct. 10, defeating Faith Christian, 25-13, 25-14 and Cleburne County, 25-14, 25-21. For the lady Warriors, Ellison Stewart had 17 kills, eight digs and four aces; Landri Lipscomb had 10 kills, seven digs, three aces and two blocks; Raylee Neal had 38 assists, 11 digs, four kills and two aces; Marley Cox had 16 digs, 11 kills and two aces; Addi Hammontree had eight kills, five digs and three aces; Kylee Wyatt had 10 digs; and Elyse Neal had five digs.

Hokes Bluff defeated Anniston, on Thursday, Oct. 10 to wrap up the regular season. For the Lady Eagles, Sawyer Colvard had 10 aces, Makenna Bennich had seven aces and Chloe Dodd and Mazely Ball each had three kills.
