Gadsden/Etowah Chamber President Heather Brothers New was recently
honored by The Alabama Afterschool Community Network by being named
its Northern Municipal Champion.

New was honored at the Northern Municipal Forum held at the Marriott
Huntsville, at the Space and Rocket Center for her support of Gadsden
afterschool educational initiatives.

The Alabama Afterschool Community Network Director of Community
Outreach and Engagement Felicia Simpson nominated New for the honor.

“That’s my job to help people,” said New. “I felt like I was just
doing my job, but I was humbled to be considered.”

Heather said that she had been helping the Alabama Afterschool
Community Network with finding where employees are needed. This helps
students determine where jobs will be after high school.

According to an ALACN press release, New continues to seek innovative
initiatives in support of education, deeming her the Northern
Municipal Champion.

The Alabama Afterschool Community Network collaborates to provide
quality programs to youth and the community while they are out of
school. The network strives to promote positive development and
life-long learning. For more information, visit alabamaacn.org.
