The summer is generally associated with vacation, recreation and relaxation. But for those who find themselves in need of blood due to accidents, natural disasters or the need for surgery, summer can also be a time of uncertainty, as blood stocks are generally low during the season in which they are most needed.

Volunteer blood donors in Gadsden and Etowah County will get a chance to give blood and save lives at the Gadsden “Summer Reunion” blood drive, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, July 19-20 from 11:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at Premiere Cinemas 16, located in the Gadsden Mall.

Presenting donors can give in honor of their respective schools, and the school with the most donors at the end of the two-day drive will get a special recognition certificate.

Show your school spirit by donating blood in honor of your school, and help the American Red Cross supply hospitals across the region with blood.

The need for blood is constant and the blood supply must be replenished, especially during the summer months, when students are away from school and regularly scheduled blood drives.

Presenting donors should declare their respective school affiliations at the blood drive registration desk, and at the end of the two-day drive, the school with the most presenting donors will be recognized.

The American Red Cross is teaming up Warner Bros., in advance of the release of anticipated summer blockbuster movie, “Pacific Rim.”

From May 24 through July 31 all presenting donors at participating donor centers and / or participating blood drives will be eligible to enter a sweepstakes to win a trip to Hollywood.

The sweepstakes will include coach airfare for a winner and a guest, 2 nights hotel accommodations, VIP Tour for 2 at Warner Bros. Studio and a $250 gift card for additional travel expenses.

Presenting volunteer donors will also receive a free popcorn courtesy of Premiere Cinemas.
