The Sardis High girls tennis team rolled up 42 points to win the Class 4A-5A, Section 8 Tournament on Apr. 19 in Guntersville. The Lady Lions will compete in the Class 4A-5A state tournament this week in Mobile.

Head coach Amanda Johnson guided the team to a perfect 14-0 record.

“I just feel really blessed,” said Rylie Brooks, the only senior on Sardis’ roster. “We’ve just had the best coaches to support us, and it’s like a dream season. We couldn’t have done it without Miss Amanda.

“It was our goal this year (to win the section), and we knew it was our year. We just wanted to dominate and we did. It’s been so much fun and we just don’t want it to end. The fact we get to go to state, because we’ve never been, we’re so excited.”
Boaz finished as the section 8 runner-up, followed by Cherokee County, Guntersville, Douglas and DAR.

“Our motto lately has been ‘finish what we started,’ and so today we just wanted to finish what we started and we did,” Brooks said. “It was awesome.”

Winning individual titles for the Lady Lions at sectionals were Macklynn Hubbard in No. 1 singles, 10-5; Jacee Hubbard in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-4; and Gracie White in No. 6 singles, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Hubbard and White won in No. 2 doubles, 6-2, 6-2.
