Sardis wins White Plains softball tournament

The Sardis High girls softball team went 5-0 record to win the White Plains Tournament championship last Saturday (Mar. 10).
“The girls played extremely hard and competed in every game with a sense of urgency in order to win the tournament,” said Sardis head coach Richey Lee. “Our pitching and defense stepped up and was a lot better than it had been in the first 11 games. Our offense had a lot of timely hits and executed situational at-bats to score a lot of runs.”
The Lady Lions opened tournament pool play by beating Randolph County, 7-4.
Winning pitcher Carly Sarratt threw a complete game to earn the win. She had four strikeouts and helped her cause at the plate by going 2-for-3. Jade Bonds went 2-for-3 with a triple, while Emily Cook went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles. Analee Dilbeck went 2-for-2 with a walk, while Hailey Hill went 1-for-3.
Sardis then defeated Ohatchee, 11-8, in its final pool play game.
Lauryn Noojin was the winning pitcher and had a hit and a sacrifice fly. Bonds went 3-for-3 with a triple, Cook went 2-for-3 and Harlee Vin-cent 2-for-3 with a double. Mallory Wills had a triple, while Hill went 1-for-3 with a sacrifice fly. Dilbeck and Kaylee Harraid both had a hit.
Sardis opened the championship bracket by defeating Montevallo, 3-2.
Harraid threw a complete game with seven strikeouts. Vincent went 2-for-3 and delivered the game-winning hit. Wills went 2-for-3 with a triple and a double, while Hill and Bonds each went 2-for-3. Hannah Hallmark went 1-for-1 with two sacrifice flies.
The Lady Lions then knocked off host White Plains, 9-4 in the semifinals. Sar-ratt was the winning pitcher, throwing a complete game with six strikeouts. She also went 1-for-2 with a sacrifice fly. Cook, Noojin and Vincent all went 2-for-3. Bonds went 1-for-2 with walk, while Wills, Dilbeck and Whitney Feemster each had a hit.
Noojin threw a no-hitter in the finals, leading Sardis to a 2-0 win over Pell City. She struck out three. Dilbeck went 1-for-2 with a double, while Wills went 1-for-2.
“Overall, my girls played the way they were capable of playing,” said Lee. “Hopefully we can continue to have confidence and play together going forward.”
