Spring Garden puts down Conquerors

Spring Garden fell just four points short of setting a new school record for most points scored in a football game on Friday (Oct. 24) with a 72-42 victory over Class 1A, Region 7 rival Coosa Christian.

Spring Garden (6-3, 5-1) jumped out to a 33-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. 

Coosa Christian (1-8, 1-5) opened the second-quarter scoring on a 1-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback Johnny Grizzard. The 2-point conversion failed, keeping the score at 33-6 Panthers.

Spring Garden accounted for the next three touchdowns in the second quarter for a 52-6 advantage.

The Conquerors scored again with 2:24 left in the third on a 5-yard touchdown run by Grizzard. Grizzard accounted for three more touchdowns in the third on runs of 38 and 60 yards. He also had a 34-yard touchdown pass to sophomore receiver Wesley Grizzard with 30 seconds remaining in the quarter.

Coosa Christian (1-8, 1-5) closes out its season on Friday at home against Donoho.
