United Way to kick off annual Day of Action

United Way of Etowah County will kick of its annual Day of Action on Friday, June 20, 2014. 

Over 400 volunteers, employees from area companies, and other participants will help various agencies all over the Gadsden community with cleaning, painting, yard work and other needs from 8 am until noon. 

United Way is also partnering with West End Elementary, Floyd Elementary, Thompson Elementary, Adams Elementary, Donehoo Elementary & Gadsden Middle School for additional projects. 

Day of Action starts and ends at the Gadsden Convention Hall with lunch provided afterwards by Gadsden Regional Medical Center and Riverview Regional Medical Center to company volunteers and CEOs. 

Along with lunch, volunteers will also receive a Day of Action t-shirt. During lunch, volunteers will speak about the day’s events.

United Way hopes to advance the common good by creating opportunities for a better life for all. United Way lives united by bringing resources from local businesses to local agencies. It helps build great relationships along the road to lasting change.

Day of Action projects also include cleaning up tornado damage in the Sardis community. 

United Way will also be collecting wish items for donation. 

The following organizations will receive the items through June 19th; American Red Cross, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Club, 4-H Clubs, Family Success Center, Thirteenth Place, James M. Barrie Center, Council on Aging, UCP Hand- in-Hand, United Way’s Success By 6, Etowah Free Community Clinic, Emergency Foster Homes, United Way’s Long Term Recovery and the YMCA.

Wish list items include anything from personal care to non-perishable foods and school supplies.
