Local favorite Sweet Tea Trio was recently honored at the 2016 Alabama Music Awards in Birmingham.
The trio was nominated for Alabama’s 2016 Female Country Artist of the Year, and was named the winner during the award show. The nominations and voting were done by the public.
Sweet Tea Trio also performed at the show, playing their original song “Forever Ain’t Long Enough “ and doing a cover of the Pistol Annies song “Hell on Heels.” The group received a standing ovation for their performance.
Sweet Tea Trio consists of Victoria Camp, 18, Savannah Coker, 18 and Kate Falcon, 16.
Camp is from Tuscaloosa. In addition to her musical talents, she also competively swims and loves to draw. In her free time she is active in her local autism community.
Coker has performed at venues throughout Alabama and around Nashville. She enjoys hunting and traveling with her family.
Southside native Falcon is well-known around Etowah County, as she has performed at many local events. The gifted singer has been singing since she was three years old.
At a Martina McBride concert in 2012, Falcon got invited onstage to sing with the country star after holding up a sign asking to sing with
McBride. Falcon sang “Anyway” with McBride, until the star, impressed with Falcon’s performance, sat to let Falcon finish the song on her own.
The concert grabbed the attention of the music industry, and she was invited to audition for The Voice in 2014. She was one of the 150 out of 50,000 that made it to the last round of auditions in California. Although not chosen to be on the show, Falcon said that the opportunity was a great experience.
After the audition, Falcon continued following her dreams with Sweet Tea Trio.
“The girls are my best friends,” said Falcon. “I couldn’t imagine doing this without them.”
All three girls are songwriters, and the band is currently working on new material. Recently, Sweet Tea Trio has been writing songs with the band Shenandoah.
The Sweet Tea Trio will be performing at the Founders Day Festival in Fultondale on August 27 from 4 to 5 p.m. On September 9, the trio will perform at Cullman County 2nd Friday Night in Cullman.
