J.W.Stewart Headstart program hosts Day with Dad

Several dads had a day in with children at Gadsden’s J.W. Stewart Headstart program, spending time in classrooms with their children and helping out with the serving of meals and other tasks.

Headstart’s Porter Foster said their visit was part of Headstart’s Male Initiative – an effort to encourage men to become more involved in their children’s school activities

GRMC dedication to ride in Rose Parade

Gadsden Regional will play a tiny part in the 125th Rose Parade in Pasadena, Calif.

Chief Executive Officer Stephen Pennington signed a dedication that will be placed on the Donate Life float in the annual New Year’s Day parade. 

The float, themed “Light Up the World,” will include riders who have received organ transplants, living donors and memorials to deceased donors.

Commission hears views on proposed wind farm bill

The Etowah County Commission recently heard a request that it support a pre-filed Senate bill that would regulate wind farms in the state of Alabama, and at the commission’s work session on Nov. 12, the members heard another request that they not support the regulations as proposed.

Gaston comes up short at Lanett

Second-ranked was too much for the Gaston Bulldogs on Friday (Nov. 8), rolling to a 66-34 victory in the opening round of the Class 2A state playoffs.

Lanett led 34-7 at halftime before Gaston scored 27 points in the second half. 

Marlon Bridges lead Lanett with 319 yards on 21 carries and six touchdowns.
