Results announced for Power to Friday Nigh contest

The votes have been tabulated for the Alabama Power/Messenger Power to Friday Night contest between Southside and St. Clair County high schools, and the Saints emerged as the winners. However, due to the good sportsmanship and overwhelming participation of Southside High School and the communities of Southside and Rainbow City, the Alabama Power Foundation and National Center for Sports Safety

Local players recognized by ASWA

Five area players were recognized in the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Prep Spotlight for Week 6 of the 2015 high school football season.

West End senior quarterback Hunter Grant finished with 405 combined yards and six touchdowns in the Patriots’ 48-12 win over Ider. Grant rushed 11 times for 125 yards and one touchdown and was 14-of-18 passing

Cardinals’ Hinton named ACCC Player of the Week

Gadsden State freshman outside hitter Summer Hinton was named the Alabama Community College Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 28-Oct. 4.  

The Addison native led the Lady Cardinals to a 3-0 week with wins over Southern Union, Wallace-Selma and Jefferson Davis. For the week, Hinton accumulated 32 kills, 48 digs, 10

Titans rally past Huntsville on homecoming

  As two Class 7A, Region 4 heavyweights stood toe-to-toe
slugging it out at Titan Stadium last Friday (Oct. 2), Gadsden City High looked
desperately for a hero.

Junior cornerback Jer’Michael Isom answered the call with a
late fourth-quarter interception that propelled his Titans to a dramatic 28-21
homecoming victory over Huntsville.<span
