Despite holding a potent Westbrook offense to 12 points last
week, Glencoe coach Lee Ozmint wasn’t entirely happy, because his team only
scored seven.
“I’m never happy with a loss,” he said. “I think we should
do whatever it takes to win. If we need to score 42 points or if we need to
hold them to less than seven – whatever it takes.
“If we play like we can and execute our plays, we’re capable
of doing just that – whatever it takes.”
The Yellow Jackets open their home and Class 3A, Region 5
seasons tonight, with Weaver paying a call.
“They are a dual-threat,” Ozmint said. “They’re capable of
getting a lot of yards passing or running. We will have to be very disciplined
on defense. And we have to be in better condition this week, which I think we
are.”
Ozmint took full blame for some conditioning problems
against Westbrook. The team got in some extra workouts this week to try and
overcome that obstacle.
“I feel a lot better about our conditioning,” Ozmint said.
“And there were a lot of little things we didn’t do right. If we can learn from
last week’s mistakes, we’ll have a chance to win.”
Quarterback Timothy Hawkins and running backs Chris English
and Trey Bolton provide the Bearcats with a lot of offense, but Glencoe is
known for its defense.
Last year, the Yellow Jackets won the same game by a 14-7
margin.
Against Westbrook last week, quarterback Hunter Nunnally was
13-for-26 in passing for 138 yards. Austin Hancock caught four passes for 47
yards, while Daniel Otwell had three receptions for 36 yards.
Thomas Ozmint led the Yellow Jackets in rushing with 68
yards on 15 carries.
Mason Brown led Glencoe in tackles with 14, followed by
Blake Christian with 12 and Houston Word with eight. Brown also had two sacks.
