At 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2, Gadsden City Schools celebrated the conclusion of their Homecoming week with a parade that stretched along Broad Street. The parade featured students from a variety of schools in the school system, including the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior Homecoming Court members from Gadsden City High School; the marching band from Litchfield Middle School; and even a fifth-grade class from Eura Brown Elementary School.
Throwing candy and waving pom-poms, the students wore bright smiles as they marched down the road, in spite of the relentless sun and heat, and enthused crowds on either side of the street cheered them on as they went past. Children ran to gather candy strewn across the ground, while adults waved back to those part of the procession.
Ultimately, however, the high school students stole the show with their creative floats, one of which featured a cartooned model of a dead tiger and the phrase “Hunt the Tigers!” in all capital letters, and another, a giant film reel reminiscent of Hollywood and themed after the Roaring ‘20s.
All in all, the parade made for a fun event that kicked off the last First Friday of the year and hyped everyone — students, coaches, teachers and football lovers alike — up for the Homecoming football game.
