Singing students, grateful seniors and a rainout for the ages

The Scott household’s weekend plans were rained out but we could not have enjoyed our time any more than we did, since it was spent with family.

The event came with live entertainment. Both of our children, our son’s wife and all four of our grandchildren spent all day Saturday with us.  It reminded me of when the students from Coosa Christian School wrote letters to our military veterans at George Wallace Senior Center, along with when the Glencoe Middle School Student Council came to visit the center. Children are not only entertaining; their youth just does something to one’s soul.

Blessings were in abundance when our veterans received the letters and when the GMS students visited. Our center felt as if celebrities had entered the building when the students arrived with gifts they made for our seniors. Kudos to Amy Wagnon for orchestrating this blessed event.

The students’ visiting during their lunch break made our seniors feel so special. They are excited at the thought of the student council returning at a later date to sing. The students claim that they can’t sing, but they don’t realize that our seniors don’t care whether or not they can sing! Our seniors love to see the students. There was a discussion about the students’ visit the rest of the week, and the gifts the seniors received were just “icing on the cake.” The looks on the faces of both our seniors and the students were priceless!

Words cannot express the feeling of holding a three-month-old baby sleeping on your chest while you are watching the other three playing an ice cream game. As I watch my grandchildren, I look over at my husband and my mother. They had the same look as our seniors and students as they too watch the grandchildren. It might have looked like a tornado came through the inside of our house, but it doesn’t get any better than this. God is great, God is good, let us thank Him for our youth!

“Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” – 1 Timothy 4:12
