Love Center, Bentley to honor Galliher

 By Donna Thornton/News Editor

Gov. Robert Bentley is expected to be in Gadsden Oct. 11 to introduce the honoree at The Love Center’s fundraising banquet.

Love Center Director Ruth Adcock said this year the center’s banquet will recognize former state representative and current member of Bentley’s cabinet Blaine Galliher. Galliher will be the keynote speaker for the banquet, Adcock said, and the governor has agreed to come to the banquet to introduce Galliher.

Adcock said the center hopes to raise money to improve and reopen its Mens Shelter which has been closed for about five years. Adcock said the center wants to reopen it as a Mens and Veterans Shelter, because homeless is an issue for some veterans.

The center also has closed its office on First Avenue for financial reasons, she said, to focus efforts at the family shelter. The Love Center celebrates 30 years in operation as a shelter for the homeless.

Tickets are $20, or a table of 10 for $200. For tickets or more information, call 256-546-8831.
