Visiting Westbrook Christian stormed in front 28-0 at halftime and went on for a 35-0 victory over Section in a matchup of teams that were tied for the third spot in the Class 2A Region 7 standings.

The win assures the Warriors (6-2, 4-2) a playoff spot. Section’s postseason hopes are down to one scenario: the Lions must beat region champion and second-ranked Fyffe next week and get an Ider victory over Sand Rock.

Westbrook Christian totaled 321 yards, including 159 yards on 11-of-18 passing from Jonathan Ford. Jake Kilgo was the Warriors’ leading rusher with 68 yards on nine carries while Devernon Marshall caught four passes for 61 yards.

Section (4-4, 3-3) managed only 190 total yards of offense.

Ford got the scoring starting with 8:53 left in the first quarter with 2-yard touchdown run. Christopher Underwood added the first of his four PATs for a 7-0 Westbrook Christian lead.

Ford’s 13-yard touchdown pass to Marshall with 35 seconds left in the first quarter pushed the Warriors’ lead to 14-0. He then found Jake Christenberry from 15 yards out to make it 21-0.

The Warrior defense scored next, as Clay Templeton returned an interception 89 yards for a touchdown on the final play of the first half.

Elias Esteban’s 1-yard TD run with 3:58 left in the fourth quarter capped the scoring.

Westbrook can secure the region’s second seed and a home playoff game on Friday in rainbow City with a victory over North Sand Mountain.
