Gadsden City held off Tuscaloosa County, 21-16, in Class 7A, Region 3 action on October 1 at Titan Stadium.
A pair of touchdown passes but Luke Waldrop (pictured above) in the first half gave the Titans the lead for good. Waldrop threw a 31-yard strike to Khamari Smith and a 9-yard strike to Mason Johnson. Gabrial Brito connected on both extra points.
But the Wildcats pulled within 14-10 courtesy of a 69-yard TD run by Kameron Hall and Isaac Rodriguez’s 44-yard field goal.
GCHS stretched its lead to 11 points midway through the fourth quarter on Waldrop’s 2-yard scoring run and Brito’s extra point, allowing the Titans to withstand Drew Keller’s fumble recovery in the end zone of a blocked punt.
For Gadsden City, Waldrop was 4 for 5 in passing for 45 yards. Khalil Hughley rushed seven times for 50 yards, while Justin Peoples gained 36 yards on six carries.
The Titans (5-2, 2-2) visit region foe and top-ranked Thompson this Friday (Oct. 8).
