Local runners compete at MLK meet

Several area athletes turned in top 10 performances at the Martin Luther King Jr. Track and field meet last Monday (Jan. 17) at the Birmingham Cross Plex.
Southside’s Luke Holcombe (pictured ar right) had a pair of top 10 efforts, placing fourth in the boys’ 1600-meter run at 4:39.28 and ninth in the 800-meter run at 2:11.63. Teammate Jackson Griggs came in sixth in the 3200-meter run at 10:01.01.
Ashville’s Emma Drinkard finished sixth in the girl’s 400-meter run at 1:01.86. The AHS boys 4×800-me-ter relay team of Clayton Knight, Wyatt Knight, Joe Stevens and Ashton Vann posted a sixth-place time of 8:48.43.
Placing 12th in the 3200-meter run were Gads-den City’s Tanner Rice (10:19.41) and Ashville’s Taylor Knight (12:13.59).
Rice took 13th in the 1600-meter run (4:37.00), while Stevens finished 19th in the 3200-meter run (10:48.36).
