Where were you born and raised?
I was born in Gadsden and raised in Mobile. I returned to Gadsden about 10 years ago.
What is your occupation?
Senior Programming Coordinator for the City of Gadsden.
What made you decide to work in your field?
I have a passion for working with seniors and giving them the opportunity to participate in different activities and making their lives meaningful and happy.
Tell us about your family and pets.
I have one daughter and one son, and both are very successful in their chosen careers. I could not be prouder of them. I have two dogs and two cats, three of which are rescues. They keep me on my toes and bring joy to my life. They are great companions.
Describe an average day in your life.
Which day? (ha-ha). Each day has a different activity that I am a part of, whether it be bingo, teaching line dancing, square dancing, and planning for many other senior activities. It is never boring, and every day is special. I dance about four to six days a week. I do stay busy.
What school or schools have you attended?
I graduated from Emma Sansom High School, Class of 1968.
What do you like to do in your free time?
Square dance, line dance, travel and art.
What would you say is your greatest accomplishment?
Becoming a mother to my two children, being named manager of the year in over five states and being the recipient of the Citizen of the Year Award, which was based on hiring the handicapped and training and developing their skills to live a productive life.
Name the one person that has been the most influential in your life.
I have always been one to push myself rather than needing guidance from others. God has always been a major influence on decisions that I make.
To what do you credit your success?
Perseverance and treating others how I would want to be treated, no matter what. Also, my love of people and setting high standards for myself.
Are you involved in any service organizations?
I am past president of the Kiwanis Club and past vice president of the Chamber of Commerce, as well as the current secretary of Gadsden Twirlers.
What is your favorite thing about this community?
The Downtown Civic Center – and the people that come together to make the programs possible. I also love Noccalula Falls Park. The beauty of this area with mountains, rivers, landscaping and the pride others have to keep Gadsden beautiful.
What would you like to see change in the community?
I envision providing proper care and facilities for the homeless community, as well as more rescue for the stray animals.
What are three words that describe you?
Intuitive, honest and friendly.
What is something surprising that many do not know about you?
I am an amateur artist and some of my paintings have sold. Also, music.
What is your favorite quote?
The Golden Rule of doing unto others as you would have others do unto you. When you give to others, expect nothing in return.
What is on your bucket list?
Sky diving, ride in a hot air balloon, visit New York City.
What is your hidden talent?
Chef, artist, teaching with patience.

What advice would you give yourself as a child?
Don’t stress over the small things. Trust in God and His timing. Study hard and save for the future. Trust your intuition, the small voice that will guide you to achieve your goals and have a better life. Be respectful to everyone, not just because of who they are and what they have. Treat the homeless the same as you would the president.
