Southside Fire Department hosing active shooter training Jan. 16

The Southside Fire Department will host an active shooter training event on January 16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Southside Community Center.

The event is geared toward emergency responders and is a free course for first responders and public employees.

Active Shooter/Hostile Event Response (A.S.H.E.R.) is an eight-hour course based on the National Fire Protection Association 3000 course and identifies the minimum program elements needed to organize, manage and sustain an active shooter or hostile event response program. The A.S.H.E.R. program includes topics such as risk elimination, effects and impacts on communities following a hostile event.

Fire service, law enforcement, emergency medicine and public safety personnel who want to be better prepared when responding to an active shooter situation should take this course.
