Etowah County Sheriff’s Office offering RAD women’s safety classes in July

The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office will once again host RAD Women’s Safety Classes.

The two-night course will be held July 24-25 at 6 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Office in Gadsden.

The Rape Aggression Defense (commonly called “RAD”) course is a program of realistic, self-defense tactics and techniques. It is a comprehensive course for women that begin with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defense training. RAD is not a martial arts program.

This course has its foundations in education and awareness. The course includes lecture, discussion and self-defense techniques suitable for women of all ages and abilities. Anyone under 18 will need a waiver signed.

Participants are asked to wear comfortable clothing. Classes will last about two hours each night. The class will be limited to 20 people, so those interested are asked to sign up sooner, rather than later.

Interested individuals may sign up at www.etowahcountysheriff.com/al-womens-self-defense.
