It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Doris Jean Weaver Smith affectionately known as “Granny. Doris passed away on July 23,2025 after a lengthy illness.
Doris was a pillar of strength and love for her family. She is preceded in death by husband, Jimmie Frank Smith, Infant daughter, Catherine, parents, O.C. and Catherine Weaver, Sister,
Margaret Rush, and her beloved grandsons, Timothy Elliot Smith, Michael Smith, & Toby Britain Agricola.
Doris is survived by her brother, Warren Weaver and by her children: Jim (Vicki), Allison (Kelly), Tim (Lynn), and Brenda. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren: Jonothan, Jeremy and Eric Agricola (Christina), Allison Leigh Martin, Joseph Smith (Liz), Victorie Steed (Patrick) and Valerie White (Tyler). She is also survived by 10 great grandchildren: Timothy, Eliza, Elijah, Rylie, Elliot, Eleanor, Aubrey, Austin, Eric Jr., and Angelina.
Doris was originally from Blount County, AL but raised her family in the Gadsden area. She graduated from Albertville High School where she met her husband, Jimmie Frank. She briefly
attended Auburn University to play basketball before marrying and starting her family. After the unexpected passing of her husband in 1971, she courageously raised four children, going
back to college at UAB, earning her bachelors and master’s degrees. Doris taught for over 30 years. Doris was an avid Auburn fan. She was a beloved teacher, beloved mother and a cherished friend to many, including those at Silver Lakes Retirement Home.
Services will be held Sunday, July 27, 2025, 2:00 pm at Collier-Butler Funeral Home in Gadsden, Pastor Mac from Parker Memorial Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will be from 1-2 pm preceding service, with interment to follow in Albertville, AL at Little Branch Cemetery, next to her husband.
Doris leaves a legacy of love, wisdom and cherished memories in the hearts of many.
