Coosa Christian finds itself facing a more beatable opponent this week, as the Conquerors visit Class 1A, Region 7 rival Donoho.

Mistakes doomed Donoho in last week’s loss to Valley Head.

The Falcons had a last-minute chance to tie the game, but a fourth-down pass fell incomplete as it went through a player’s hands near the goal line.

Donoho has only 18 players, creating a near mirror-image of Coosa’s situation.

“They’re like us in that they can’t substitute very much,” Conqueror coach Scott Clifton said. “With both of these teams, an injury or anything makes a huge difference.”

Something that may make a huge difference for the Falcons is quarterback Chris Carr, a senior with a great arm.

“He can run and throw very well,” Clifton said. “He’s a danger we have to watch out for.”

Last week against Collinsville, Ben Mills gained 47 rushing yards on 16 attempts. Seth Williamson had seven tackles, followed by Ben Mills with six and Caleb Sanderson, Randy Washington and Jace Mills with four each. Williamson and Ben Mills each had a sack.

“At times we blocked well and other times we didn’t,” Clifton said of the Collinsville game. “Even though it doesn’t look like it in the stats, we did a good job on their running game. They big-played us, and if we had stopped some of those big plays, the game would’ve been a lot closer. We’ve got to learn to apply what we do in practice to the game field.”
