If not for two bad quarters, Mike Robertson feels his Hokes Bluff High football team could have a chance at being 2-0.

But those two quarters – the fourth in Week 1 and the third this past week – killed whatever chance the Eagles had to win both contests.

“We’ve played three good quarters in each game,” Robertson said. “But that’s a part of the process of mental maturity – we’ve got to get tougher. We’ve got a chance to win most games if we can play four quarters.”

As for this week, Robertson said to not let Alexandria’s winless record fool you.

“They’re the typical, hard-nosed, gritty Alexandria team,” he said. “They had chances to win both of their first two games, and we’ve got to go over there. That’s never easy.”

The Eagles have prepared hard for the Valley Cubs. Now they’ve got to take it to the field. This is something that Robertson’s staff has preached to the kids.

“It doesn’t matter who practices hardest or best,” he said. “What matters is what happens on Friday night.”

Last week against Jacksonville, Chase Beggs finished with 98 rushing yards on 26 carries.

Cole Williams completed 7-of-17 passes for 106 yards.

Beggs and Sam Cole both had two catches.

Chase Pope led in tackles with 12, followed by Zack Robertson with 11, Stephen McDonald with 10 and Noah Click with seven.
