Sardis High’s undefeated record doesn’t matter as much to Gene Hill as to what he sees on film each week.

That can be summed up in one word – “improvement.”

“We’re getting better every week,” said the SHS coach. “We’re not there yet, but what I hope to see on film is improvement and we’re doing well there, especially on defense.”

Next up on the Lions menu is Douglas, which comes to Sardis City limping after an early tough schedule.

“They seem to be searching for an identity on offense,” Hill said. “They ran the Wing-T the first week, then ran the power-I last week. All we know for sure is that they’re a run-first team.

“Figuring out what to do to defend them is our problem.”

Hill said that the defensive side of the Eagles program seems to be okay.

“Their defense has played well,” he said. “The last game doesn’t look like it, but (St. Clair County) is a very good team that can score on almost anyone.”
