Is this the week for Coosa Christian to break through with a victory?

Coach Scott Clifton hopes so, and the way his team is improving, it’s a possibility.

“We’re improving each week and that’s something to be proud of,” he said. “We played a good game (in a 49-20 loss to Cedar Bluff) but ran out of steam.”

After three quarters, the Tigers owned a 28-0 lead but things could’ve been different.

Trailing only 7-0 in the second quarter, the Conquerors turned the ball over (while driving) and Cedar Bluff capitalized with a touchdown, taking away the momentum.

Next up is Spring Garden, a team in a very similar situation as Coosa.

“They’re going to be prepared on both offense and defense,” Clifton said. “It’s going to come down to who makes the fewest mistakes and who can stop who.”

The Panthers are like the Conquerors in that they’re young and inexperienced in a lot of positions.

But unlike Cedar Bluff, Spring Garden is closer to Coosa in the numbers game – an area that the Conquerors have struggled with.

“(Spring Garden) rotates about as many in and out as we do,” Clifton said. “They have a few more players than we do but not many.”

Last week against Cedar Bluff, Johnny Grizzard completed 19-of-32 passes for 213 yards. He also led the Conquerors in rushing with nine carries for 93 yards. Ben Mills had nine receptions for 90 yards, while Isaac Ham-by caught four passes for 25 yards.

Ben Mills had 19 tackles, followed by Caleb Sanderson with 13 and Hamby and Jace Mills with 10 each.
