There should be a playoff atmosphere for this county rivalry matchup tonight (Nov. 1) in Attalla, as both teams have secured a postseason berth.
“It’s a chance to play a playoff-type game and a chance to hopefully see a great crowd come out, since it is a county game,” Etowah coach Drew Noles said. “We’ll have to play well if we want to win.”
Glencoe coach Lee Ozmint echoed that statement.
“Playing in a stadium that we’re not used to and playing in front of what should be a large crowd will help us in the playoffs.”
Glencoe comes in on a three-game winning streak, but Ozmint contends that the Yellow Jackets are on a six-game streak, as the Saks game wasn’t decided on the field.
“We had Saks beat,” he said. “We made the plays to beat them, but someone else decided the game and that’s a shame. The outcome of a game should be decided by the players.”
Noles said, “(Glencoe) is playing great right now. Their offensive line is one of the best we’ve seen this year and they have two 1,000-yard rushers. You can’t focus on one of them or the other will burn you.”
Etowah, meanwhile, has stumbled a bit in the second half of the season, losing two of the past four games.
“They’re extremely tough,” Ozmint said. “I hope our kids respond or we’ll get embarrassed, because they’re extremely athletic and very fast on both offense and defense. We’ll have to play a great game to beat them.”
For Glencoe last week, Thomas Ozmint ran for 216 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries
Dylan Stone gained 121 yards and a TD on nine carries while completing 7-of-13 passes for 54 yards and two touchdowns.
Mason Brown led the Yellow Jackets in tackles with nine, followed by Will Parker with six.
For Etowah last week, Paul Ruiz gained 84 rushing yards on nine attempts, while Devin Horton had 77 yards on 11 carries.
Andy Noles was 3-of-5 passing for 34 yards, while Kordell Rudolph finished 3-of-6 for 31 yards.
