Gadsden-Etowah Habitat for Humanity’s Church Relations Committee is hosting a Circle of Faith Breakfast on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 7:30 a.m. at the Habitat for Humanity office located at 3644 Rainbow Drive, Rainbow City for all local pastors and their mission representatives.

The one hour program will offer ideas for church congregations to volunteer and participate in the Habitat housing ministry.

April Cowgill, a Habitat homeowner for 14 years, and her son, Ryan, will briefly share their story on how Habitat for Humanity has impacted their lives.

Invitations have been sent to local churches, but anyone interested in volunteering is welcome.

Ty Dillon, Church Relations Chairman said, “We hope to recruit more volunteers by sharing ways that congregations and individuals can get involved.”

Volunteer opportunities for both youth and adults will be presented.

Through the years, more than twenty churches have partnered with Habitat for Humanity to build houses in Etowah County.

Volunteer opportunities include fund raising, public relations, family selection, family support, church relations, and construction.

Construction volunteers can work one or two days a week or one or two days a month typically 8 a.m. till 12 p.m.

Experienced Crew Leaders are happy to show volunteers the ropes. Four families are in the pipeline for housing now.

“You will find the building of a house to be an exhilarating experience when you can personally see the difference you make in the lives of a family in need,” said Steve Scharfenberg, Construction Coordinator.

“Over the years, we have had some great volunteers, but time marches on and we need to build our volunteer base and let more people experience the joy that comes from being a Habitat volunteer,” he said.
