Lady Eagles fly past Ashville in area title game

Carlie Shields came out shooting in the Lady Eagle’s game against Ashville on Saturday, helping the hosts build an insurmountable lead on the way to a 49-31 victory in the Class 3A, Area 10 girls basketball tournament championship. 

Hokes Bluff (27-4) will play either Piedmont or Saks in Thursday’s subregional round.

Shields scored 16 first-quarter points as the No. 10 Lady Eagles built an 18-6 lead. Hokes Bluff increased its lead to 33-12 at halftime and never look back.

The Lady Eagles held a 40-18 advantage after three quarters. 

Hokes Bluff head coach Jason Shields was pleased with his team’s effort.

“This was our most complete game of the season. We shot the ball extremely well tonight. We practice our shooting each day in practice, shooting 250 times.” 

Carlie Shields finished with 20 points, while Mallory Moland added 12 for the Lady Eagles. Ebonie Brooks led Ashville with eight points.
