After a season and a half, West End finally got to enjoy a victory last week.

“I was happy for the kids, that they were able to see a win,” coach Kyle Davis said. “They were finally able to celebrate a little after a game.”

If the Patriots are to celebrate homecoming this week with a victory, they’ll have to limit turnovers.

“We had one turnover last week and won,” Davis said. “The week before, we had five turnovers and lost. It ain’t rocket science.”

Ider is a team that likes to play physical and run the football down your throat.

“We’ve got to play hard-nosed with them,” Davis said, noting that West End has practiced on being physical this week. “You’ve got to get to their runners before they get going downhill or you’re in trouble.”

Ider’s two region losses are to Fyffe and Gaston, “two of the region’s toughest teams,” Davis said.

Last week against the Conquerors, Hunter Grant had a pair of interceptions, returning one 40 yards for a touchdown. He also rushed and passed for a combined 244 yards of offense and four touchdowns.

Jordan Malin rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries, while Andre Little ran seven times for 105 yards and two scores.

Rhett Lister caught three passes for 63 yards. He also had an interception on defense.

Brett McCurry had 11 tackles, followed by Malin with seven and Bruce Evans and Dwayne Miller with five each.
