The neighborhood scoop is buzzing with activities of Christmas themes for 2014.
The annual Mt. Zion Baptist Church Ladies Christmas was held on Nov. 29 at the Northeast Etowah Community Center in North Gadsden. The tables were decked with Christmas trees, angels, holly and beautiful shining lights. A festive program was presented by the ladies, with Sister Tammy B. Woods serving as the Mistress of Ceremony. Sister Tracy B. Guyton spoke of God’s Great Joy. She asked two question: “What brings you joy” and “Who brings you joy?” Her answer was that the Joy of Jesus Christ is everlasting. The tea was highlighted with food and a wonderful game everyone participated in that was entitled, “The Wright Family.”
Antioch Baptist Church hosted a Dinner Theater on Dec. 6. The event was organized by Margaret R. Wright. The Antioch Family Life Center was filled with decorative tables showcasing various centerpieces and dinnerware representing the Christmas season. The Dinner Theater presentation was A Night with Dr. Maya Angelou. Throughout the evening, many recitals were done of her poems and essays. Maya Angelou was born in St. Louis, Missouri on April 4, 1928. She is best known as a poet an award-winning author known for her acclaimed memoir I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. It was a night of remembering a woman who touched the hearts and souls of many people with her fight for justice, her words and her love for mankind.
