Etowah County District 2 Commissioner Kenny Tidmore passed away Saturday, February 21 at a Birmingham hospital.
Tidmore will be remembered by his fellow commissioners for his hard work and compassion.
The first time District 3 County Commissioner Larry Payne met Tidmore was while Tidmore was behind the counter of the Noccalula Village Chevron that he owned.
“The first impression I had was how friendly he was…he was courteous to everyone,” said Payne.
In 2012, the Republican Tidmore was elected to serve district 2.
“When he came to the courthouse, he said, ‘I’m here to work. Tell me what to do, and I’ll do it,’” said Payne.
Before working as a commissioner, Tidmore spent 33 years working at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., retiring in 2005.
His experience working for Goodyear and at his Chevron gave Tidmore a good understanding of what the road department needed, according to Payne.
“I think that was his passion,”said Payne.
According to District 6 County Commissioner Tim Choate, Tidmore was dedicated to learning whatever he had to, in order to better serve his community, which included ethics and highway and bridge classes.
“It was a privilege to work with Kenny,” said Choate. “It’s a shame it was such a short time, only two years. He’s going to be missed.”
