The Etowah County Health Department is hosting a Prenatal Resource Fair on August 26 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m.

The purpose of the event is to provide local pregnant women and families with an opportunity to learn about community resources available to them and young children.

The health department began planning the event several months ago and has gotten the support of many agencies that provide services to women and families.

United Way’s Success by Six program will be there. The aim of the program is to prepare kids for the classroom. To do so, the program partners with pre-K’s statewide. They also promote children’s health. According to the website, “Success By 6 is committed to safe learning environments and providing healthy options for physical activity and nutrition in the preschool years.”

The Family Center of Etowah County, the Alabama, Cooperative Extension System, Sorrell Dental, the Wallace State Nursing Department, the Alabama Department of Public Health Perinatal Program, the Alabama Department of Public Health Immunization Program and Etowah County’s WIC Program will also be at the fair.

The event should be able to provide any resources needed.

“With all these folks, if they don’t do it themselves, they know someone who does,” said Reba Brannon, Alabama Department of Health Area Nutrition Coordinator and the fair’s organizer.

Door prizes will be given, including a new car seat.

The Etowah County Health Department is located at 709 East Broad Street in Gadsden. For more information about the health department, visit www.adph.org/etowah.
