Area runners compete at state cross country meet

Several local runners participated in the Alabama High School Athletic Association state cross country championships last Saturday (Nov. 12) at Oakville Museum and Park in Moulton.

Four area runners finished in the top 15 of their respective classifications to earn all-state honors. In boys action, Southside senior Hunter Nails took sixth place in Class 6A with a time of 16:41.49, while Westbrook Christian sophomore Mitchell Cook took 11th place in Class 1A/2A (17:33.7).

In girls action, Westbrook Christian sophomore Mary Reid Goodwin took ninth place in 1A/2A with a time of 20:21.89, while Glencoe freshman Abby Vice took 12th place in 3A (20:45.55).

Also competing were Gaston’s Haley Bellew in 1A/2A girls (26:22.36), Glencoe’s Anna Beth Giles in 3A girls (23:03.10) and Southside’s Taylor Nails in Class 6A boys (18:01.93).
