Authors unveiled: Thompson students write book

Summer Quinn of Sarrell Dental and Dr. Joe Profit help Sarrell mascot Marlo greet students at Thompson Elementary School during their awards program, when the student’s book about Marlo was revealed and offered for sale.

With the help of Sarrell Dental of Attalla and the NFL Players Alumni Association, Thompson Elementary third, fourth and fifth grade students got to see the published product of labors that began last fall. The students worked together to write and illustrate a book, “Dr. Marlo goes Pro,” about Sarrell Dental’s mascot. Students said they had to develop the plot, name characters and write the text of the book, as well as illustrating it.

The book was published by Youth United for Prosperity Inc., and according to its president, Dr. Joe Profit – a former player for the Atlanta Falcons – part of the program is designed to teach entrepreneurship by giving the young authors a product – their book – to sell.

The book will be available on Amazon and in some bookstores.
