On Tuesday, July 26, Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Northeast Alabama
presented local orthodontist Dr. Lisa Wilborn with a plaque for
becoming the newest community partner with the organization. Wilborn
was surprised with the award at Smith and Bailey Dental in Rainbow
City.

“Dr. Forrest Bailey, a local dentist, is a ‘Big’ in our agency and he
recruited Dr. Lisa Wilborn, his colleague, to be a part of our
business community family that strives to make a difference in the
life of a child,” said Valerie Shannon, Executive Director of Big
Brothers, Big Sisters of Northeast Alabama.

Wilborn has already been a valuable addition to the Big Brothers, Big
Sisters community.

“She has been a great advocate thus far and we look forward to her
participation in the years to come,” said Shannon.

Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Northeast Alabama is a mentoring program
that worked with 227 children last year. The organization serves five
counties: Etowah, DeKalb, Cherokee, Talladega and Calhoun.

Shannon said that the first thing that happens with mentoring is that
the child’s self-esteem increases. With support, the children often do
better in school and achieve success in life, which is the
organization’s vision.

Big Brother, Big Sisters is hosting its annual Golf Tournament on
Thursday, September 15 at Twin Bridges Golf Club located at 901
