Blue Devils, Bulldogs win; Lions, Eagles, Warriors come up short

Etowah opened Class 5A, Region 7 play with a 35-7 victory over Douglas last Friday (Sept. 2) at DHS.
For the sixth-ranked Blue Devils (2-1, 1-0), Daulton Hyatt completed 6-of-12 passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns, while Andy Noles was 6-of-9 in passing for 82 yards and two scores.
Emil Smith caught six passes for 97 yards and a touchdown. Noles and Justin Harris each had two receptions and a touchdown.
Etowah continues region palsy this week at home against No. 7 Guntersville.

Gaston High scored 28 unanswered points in the second half en route to a 36-8 victory over Class 2A, Region 6 rival Section last Friday (Sept. 2) at SHS.
Kevin Hollingsworth and Alexander Allen teamed up for a pair of touchdown passes for the Bulldogs (1-2, 1-0), while D.J. Pope and Allen Black also each scored a touchdown.
Gaston continues region play this week with a home game against Collinsville.

Madison Academy jumped out to a commanding first-half lead and cruised to a 42-7 decision over Class 4A, Region 7 opponent Sardis last Friday (Sept. 2).
The visiting Lions (0-3, 0-1) avoid the shutout when Logan Gaskin and Drew Vaughn connected for a 56-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter.
Sardis hosts Geraldine this Friday (Sept. 9) in another region contest.

Hokes Bluff lost to Cherokee County, 30-7, in a Class 4A, Region 5 game last Friday (Sept. 2) in Centre. The Eagles’ lone score came on Landon Johnson’s 10-yard touchdown pass to Braydon Hill in the third quarter. Hokes Bluff (0-2, 0-1) hosts Jacksonville on Friday (Sept. 9) in another region contest.

Westbrook Christian fell to Sand Rock, 45-21, in the Warriors’ Class 2A, Region 6 opener last Friday (Sept. 2) at SRHS. The Warriors (0-2, 0-1) host Fyffe on Friday in more region action.
