Collinsville smacks Gaston

Summer Roberts pitched a complete game for Collinsville as the Lady Panthers smacked Gaston, 16-5, on March 19.

The Lady Panthers tagged Bulldog starter Tanna Lawson for three runs in the top of the first inning and led 5-0 after two innings.

Gaston recorded its first base runner in the bottom of the third inning. Cadie Bagley led off with a single and stole second base moments later.

Brittney Whitmore reached first base on a Collinsville error, and scored on Abby Elrod’s double. Allyson Britton singled to drive in a pair of runs, while Darby Samples added an RBI double to cut the Panthers’ lead to 5-4 after three innings. 

The Lady Panthers exploded in the top of the fourth inning for seven runs on five hits to put the game out of reach. The big blow in the inning came off the bat of Sydney Jones who delivered a double to left with the bases loaded to plate three runs. The ball just missed being a grand slam home run as it hit the fence 200 feet away. Collinsville added four more runs in the top of the fifth to increase their lead to 16-4. The Lady Dawgs added one run in the bottom of the fifth to make the final score Collinsville 16, Gaston 5.

Abby Elrod and Allyson Brittan each had two hits for Gaston. Trista Duque had three hits for Collinsville. Summer Roberts got the win for Collinsville. Tanna Lawson took the loss for Gaston.
