The Gadsden Public Library will host “They Be Scamming – Who, How and Help” at 4 p.m. Hosted by the law firm of Cusimano, Roberts, Mills and Knowlton, the event is an informative seminar on how to identify and prevent scams.
August 10
The Parent Symposium 2024 will be held at The Venue at Coosa Landing from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will explore pressing issues in education and empower parent to be effective advocates for their children’s education.
The Northeast Alabama Genealogical Society will meet at 10 a.m. at Nichols Memorial Library located at the corner of Dwight and Cabot Avenues in Alabama City. Guest speaker Cassandra Johnson, Circuit Clerk of Etowah County, will discuss records available at the circuit court office, as well as other information. Anyone interested is invited to attend. August 11
The Council on Aging will hold its annual Speakeasy Casino Night Fundraiser at 210 at the Tracks from 6 to 11 p.m. This event features professional Las Vegas-style gaming tables, catering by J.P. and Son Café and door prizes. BYOB (alcohol is allowed). 1920s attire is encouraged. Several ticket packages/sponsor levels are available. Call 256-543-3616 for details.
August 17
The first ever Gadsden Collector Show will be held at The Venue at Coosa Landing from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will include comics, toys, video games, TCG and sports cards, anime and autographed memorabilia.
August 16 & 23
Due to an emergency blood shortage, the American Red Cross will host a blood drive at Premiere Cinemas 16 at the Gadsden Mall on Friday, Aug. 16 and Friday, Aug. 23 from 1 – 6 p.m.
September 7
Agape Nation will host a silent auction and comedy show with comedian Jonnie W. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and auction pick up will end at 9:15 p.m. Refreshments will be provided. Proceeds from this event will go toward opening a day program/school for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Tickets are $40.
Ongoing
Zumba classes will be held Monday nights at 6 p.m. at the Southside Community Center. The cost is $5 a class, but those buying five classes get the sixth class free.
The Northeast Alabama Genealogical Society recently announced the completion of the Clayton Cemetery book, which contains over 350 pages of information on those buried at Clayton Cemetery. Every effort was made to identify those resting in the cemetery. Some buried there may not be included since no official records were kept. Nichols Memorial Library, home of the Northeast Alabama Genealogical Society, is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursdays for anyone interested in family history research. A history and research group meets on Thursdays at 9 a.m. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate. The library contains genealogical information and family files from all areas of Alabama, Georgia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and other states.
