July 31
Etowah County Health Department located at 709 East Broad Street will administer VFC immunizations to children 18 and under with Medicaid, uninsured or underinsured by appointment only. Vaccines to the uninsured will be $5 each. Bring all the childrens’ shot records to the clinic. For more information, call 256-547-6311.

August 1
Noccalula Falls serves at the start point of “The World’s Longest Yard Sale,” on August 1 – 4. The 690-mile yard sale travels through Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama. The event starts at 7 a.m. and will end at 5 p.m.

The monthly meeting of the Neely Henry Lake Association will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Rainbow City Community Center. Guest speaker Dr. Matt Catalano, a member of the Fisheries faculty at Auburn University, will discuss the tagging, economic study and bass movement/redistribution results of the multi-year project on the bass population in Neely Henry. Dr. Catalano and several of his team members have spoken at previous NHLA meetings, sharing interim reports on the multi-year bass tagging project on Neely Henry Lake. The meeting includes light refreshments and door prizes. The public is welcome to attend.

August 2
Atomic Johnny’s and Humane Society Pet Rescue and Adoption Center will host Pints for Paws August 2 at 5 p.m., located at 510 Broad Street. The event will feature raffles, giveaways and entertainment.

August 5
The Family Success Center will host Back to School Free Haircuts for Kids from 3 to 6 p.m. for kids and teenagers at East Gads-den Community Center located at 921 Wilson Avenue.

August 9
The Gadsden Public Library will host They Be Scammin’, who, how and help at 4 p.m. Hosted by the law firm of Cusimano, Roberts, Mills and Knowlton, the event is an informative seminar on how to identify and prevent scams.

August 11
The Council on Aging will hold its annual Speakeasy Casino Night Fundraiser Friday August 11 at 210 at the Tracks from 6 to 11 p.m. This event features professional Las Vegas-style gaming tables, catering by JP and Son Café and fabulous prize packages. BYOB (alcohol is allowed). 1920s attire is encouraged. Several ticket packages/sponsor levels are available. Call 256-543-3616 for details.

Ongoing
Zumba classes will be held Monday nights at 6 p.m. at the Southside Community Center. The cost is $5 a class, but those buying five classes get the sixth class free.

The Northeast Alabama Geealogical Society recently announced the completion of the Clayton Cemetery book, which contains over 350 pages of information on those buried at Clayton Cemetery. Every effort was made to identify those resting in the cemetery. Some buried there may not be included since no official records were kept. Nichols Memorial Library, home of the Northeast Alabama Genealogical Society, is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursdays for anyone interested in family history research.

A history and research group meets on Thursdays at 9 a.m. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate. The library contains ge-nealogical information and family files from all areas of Alabama, Georgia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and other states.
