Coosa blanks West End to close out region play

Coosa Christian extended its winning streak to eight games and the Conqueror defense recorded its fifth shutout of the season with a 62-0 victory over Class 2A Region 6 rival and Etowah County neighbor West End on Friday, Oct. 18 in Walnut Grove.
Coosa (8-1, 6-0) held the Patriots (1-8, 0-5) to minus-4 total yards, two first downs and 1-for-8 on third down conversion attempts.
For the Conquerors, John David Justus (pictured above at left) was 11 for 19 in passing for 172 yards and four touchdowns. He also carried four times for 41 yards. J’Alan Terry gained 129 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries.
Kylen Johnson had four receptions for 44 yards and a touchdown and returned a punt 75 yards for a touchdown. He also had an interception on defense.
Eli Motes caught three passes for 22 yards, while Terry, Dylan Edwards and D.J. Mackey each caught a touchdown pass. Jorge Cantellano was 7-for-8 on extra points.
Motes and Kanon Wilson (pictured above at right) each had six tackles, followed by Zayden Franklin with 5.5, Clete O’Bryant with five, Edwards with four and Cade Mickler and Joseph East with three each. Edwards had an interception, while Hayden Pearce had a sack.
Coosa finishes out the regular season on Friday, Oct. 25 at home against Tuscaloosa Academy, while West End closes out the year at region rival Southeastern.
