It’s been a long season for the Gaston faithful, but coach Josh Averett hopes to finish it on a winning note.

“Everyone’s disappointed at how the season has gone,” he said. “But for the most part, the kids are staying positive. It would be great to win this one and send the seniors out on a winning note.”

As bad as the oh-fer feels, Averett is just as hurt over missing the playoffs. This will be the first time since 2001 that the Bulldogs won’t be playing in Week 11.

Also missing the playoffs this season is Pleasant Valley.

“Their record may not show it, but that’s a good team,” Averett said. “They run the option some, they have a good quarterback and a good running back. Nothing will be easy for us.”
