From God’s word – Oh, how beautiful is the goodness of our God

Last week, my column was titled, “Is Life Worth Living?” and taken from the Book of Ecclesiastes. This week I was going to follow up with an article about King Solomon’s final conclusion to the three most important words of wisdom for life. Although I still plan on completing that article, little did I know what the coming week would entail, and, in some ways, how the title of last week’s article would prove to be somewhat applicable in some of the events I encountered. Without going into too many details, suffice it to say that the past two weeks have been a challenge, both in the natural and the spiritual. In my conversations and time with the Lord, I found myself going back to the foundational truths of the attributes of God and His true character. My word of advice for us as believers is to ask ourselves, “Do I believe, really believe, who God says He is according to scripture, and would I know how to stand on those attributes of God in hard times?”

These past two weeks, I’ve had to ask myself if I truly believe in the goodness of God, even when things in the natural do not look good. There is a song called the “Goodness of God,” written by Bethel Music, that has been on repeat for me this entire month. One of the reasons I love this song is because the lyrics resonate the truth of God’s character and why He is such a good, good Father. Therefore, I thought it was more appropriate this week to share this song with each of you and pray that no matter what you are walking through, you would remember that ultimately, our God is a good, good God and His goodness does not disappear when hard times come. Rather, it is in those very times that His goodness continues to run after you! Just let those words alone sink into your mind – God’s goodness is running after you!

I encourage you to look this song up and sing along and let this truth of God sink deep into your heart and soul, for this will not be the first nor the last time in which we will need to return to this foundational truth of our Lord and Savior. Be watching this week for His goodness to run after you!

Goodness of God

“I love You, Lord

For Your mercy never failed me

All my days, I’ve been held in Your hands

From the moment that I wake up

Until I lay my head

Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God

(Chorus)

And all my life You have been faithful

And all my life You have been so, so good

With every breath that I am able

Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God

I love Your voice

You have led me through the fire

And in the darkest night You are close like no other

I’ve known You as a Father

I’ve known You as a Friend

And I have lived in the goodness of God, yeah!

(Chorus)

And all my life You have been faithful

And all my life You have been so, so good

With every breath that I am able

Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God

‘Cause Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me

Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me

With my life laid down, I’m surrendered now I give You everything

‘Cause Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me.
