From God’s word – The beauty of our Lord’s magnitude

Lately, I have been thinking about the vastness and magnitude of our Lord and how this attribute, along with His consistent character, never changes. I have been learning that as I reflect on these things, it changes my perspective concerning my current issues and problems.

All of a sudden, my problems, which once seemed huge and never-ending, begin to appear much smaller in comparison to my Lord and who He is. This perspective also gives me a big picture view of life rather than seeing life based off of what is only in front of me at the time.

In his devotional book, “The Book of Mysteries,” Jonathan Cahn describes this thought beautifully when he wrote, “Two thousand years ago, our Messiah said, ‘I am the Light of the World.’ Since that time, ages have begun and ended, continents and civilizations have been discovered, kingdoms and empires have risen and fallen and kings and luminaries have appeared and passed away. And some of these have, for a moment, seemed larger. For a time, they obscured the figure of the Nazarene.

But in the long run and over the course of the long journey, they’ve all passed away. Everything has changed, except for God. All the rest lies in ruins and rubble or in the pages of history, but He remains unchanged and undiminished and as central as pivotal and colossal as He has ever been. Everything changes but God. He is the sun. And the immensity of His magnitude…is manifested by His changelessness.”

Two Scriptures come to mind when I read those words.

Hebrews 13:8. “Jesus, the Anointed One, is always the same, yesterday, today and forever.” Our God never changes! Regardless of changes in the past, present, and even in the days and years to come, one thing we can be sure of is that our God will always remain the same. When people change and things in our world change, we can count on our God to remain constant, steady, dependable and reliable at all times. That thought alone brings me such peace and hope for my future! Jesus is not influenced by others. He is not fearful of the unknowns in this world but instead remains unchanged and undiminished.

John 8:12. “Then Jesus said, ‘I am light to the world, and those who embrace me will experience life-giving light, and they will never walk in darkness.” Jesus is light as well as the one who issues life. The world lies in darkness and death because it has rebelled against God, and thus broken contact with the one source of light and life. Jesus is the only one that can bring light and life back to this world. His life-giving light is available to all who is willing to embrace Him, accept Him and allow Him to enter their lives.

Today, Lord, we celebrate the magnificent and holy God that you are! We celebrate and worship You alone! Lord, may we walk in Your light daily and keep our perspective of life centered around You! Thank you for your promises and your faithfulness to us.
