The Gadsden Runners Club will host a race on Saturday (May 3) to introduce runners and guest to a new section of trail the runners club helped to prepare in the Black Creek area.

Jim Copeland of the Gadsden Runners Club said the Spring Trail Run will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Noccalula Falls Chapel. Runners can register for the race “right up to start time,” Copeland said.

Proceeds from the race will do the maintenance of the system of trails for runners, walkers and bikers at the Noccalula Falls Park.

On Friday evening (May 2), Copeland said there will be a runners expo at the pavilion, that will be open to anyone who wants to attend.

Copeland said there are about 150 runners signed up for race already, and he hopes to have a great turn out for the event.

Race day registration is $35; $30 prior to the race. Race packets may be picked up May 2 at the front desk at the YMCA or at the registration table on May 3.

“The approximate five-mile race course winds through lovely wooded trails, over small creek beds, up to a beautiful view of Gadsden, over wooden bridges, along a gravel path, and by Noccalula and the falls themselves. The trail has a moderate difficulty but a novice trail runner could still walk and enjoy the race,” according to the runners’ club website.
