The Gadsden-Etowah Patriots Association and the City of Gadsden will present the annual Independence Day fireworks show at 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 4.
The Fourth of July tradition draws thousands of spectators, and the city has contributed more funding this year to help extend the display. The event is also being supported by a grant from the Alabama Department of Tourism, which was secured with the assistance of House District 28 State Representative Mack Butler.
“We want to invite all of Gadsden and Etowah County to celebrate our country’s founding,” Mayor Craig Ford said. “This year, citizens can enjoy a special view atop the Memorial Bridge on Broad Street, and we have partnered with ALDOT and others to clear out viewpoints along the Coosa River. Events like this are fun memories for the family and another reminder of the importance of a strong, connected community.”
The show will begin at 9 p.m., and fireworks will be launched from the east bank of the Coosa River, near the Riverwalk’s piers and behind the Riverview Plaza shopping area off George Wallace Drive.
The Memorial Bridge on Broad Street will be closed from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on July 4 to allow viewers to witness the fireworks display over the river.
Other locations with views of the show include: Gadsden Ampitheatre parking lot, the former YMCA parking lot, Moragne Park, Coosa River boardwalk and The Venue at Coosa Landing.
Parking and access to some traditional viewing areas are limited due to the construction of the city’s new cancer care center and equipment work at the former Convention Hall site.
