Gaston finishes third in section track meet

The Gaston High boys and girls track and field team each finished in third place at the Class 1A, Section 3 Meet on Apr. 27 at Falkville. 

Both squads will compete in the Class 1A state meet this weekend in Selma.

The Gaston boys won three events, including Marcus Knight in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.00, Jackson Bogle in the javelin with a toss of 158 feet and 6 inches and the 4×100 meter relay team with a time of 48.39 seconds.

Knight also finished second in the 200-meter dash at 25.12 seconds, followed in third place by teammate Albert Douglas (25.69 seconds). 

Also finishing in third place for Gaston was Taylor Prickett in the 1600-meter run (4:58.10), Jackson Bogle in the shot put (42-11.00) and the 4×400-meter relay team of Taylor Pirickett, Josh Bogle, Taylor Hawkins and Nitchell Smith (3:59.29). 

Taking fourth place was Douglas in the 100-meter dash (12.42), Prickett in the 3200-meter run (11:04.73) Jackson Bogle in the triple jump (35-09.50) and the Bulldogs’ 4×800-meter relay team of Jacob Johnson, Keaton Peacock, Alexander Allen and Alec Burgess (10:06.69).

Also gaining points for Gaston was Mitchell Smith (5th in the 100-meter dash), Jacob Johnson (5th in the 3200-meter run, 7th in the 1600-meter run), Tyler Pankey (5th in the discus, 8th in the shot put and javelin), Jason Bogle (5th in the javelin, 6th in the shot put), Josh Bogle (6th in the 200-meter dash and the long jump), Keaton Peacock (7th in the 800-meter run) and Taylor Hawkins (8th in the 400-meter dash).

The Lady Dawgs had two first-place showings -Tanna Lawson in the javelin with a throw of 90 feet and 7.5 inches and the 4×400-meter relay team at 55.25 seconds. 

Gaston’s lone runner-up performance came in the 4×400-meter relay, where Brittany Pollard, Brittany Clay, Darby Samples and Kentara Blackwell combined for a time of 5:11.70.

Kierra Porter had third-place showings in the 100-meter dash (13.83 seconds) and the 200-meter dash (28.667 seconds). Also taking third place was Brittany Pollard in the high jump (20.40).

Also earning points for Gaston were Seaunna Collins (4th in the 100-meter dash, 6th in the 200-meter dash), Tanna Lawson (4th in the shot put, Darby Samples 4th in the javelin), the 4th place 4×800-meter relay team of Destiny Allen, Leslie Hall, Lindy Oliver and Arionna Collins, Kentara Blackwell (5th in the 400-meter dash), Brittany Pollard (5th in the discus, 6th in the 300-meter hurdles), Kierra Porter (6th in the long jump), Ciara Collins (6th in the shot put, 8th in the discus), Kentara Blackwell (7th in the 100-meter dash) and Leslie Hall (7th in the 800-meter run and the 3200-meter run).

The Westbrook Christian boys track and field team took fifth place and the girls finished seventh at the Class 1A, Section 3 Meet on Apr. 27 at Falkville.
